Why This Exists
Ok, here’s the deal...
The Bay Area is full of smart people with capital, judgment, and conviction — but when it comes to real estate investing, why is it that my only options have been:
Write a check to a professional syndicator or PE firm and hope their incentives align with ours, (been there, done that...)
Go solo and underwrite, operate, and execute alone (I don’t have that kind of time...)
Sit out, frustrated by how opaque and passive most opportunities are. (::sigh::)
The status quo is not good enough anymore for me. So, I'd like a group of people to building something better...
What I hope you’ll create together with others
I beg of you (someone) create this group. I can help, but this is not my cross to bear. Happy to be a cheerleader and inspire others to make this (first?) member-led real estate investment collective. It can’t just be a fund. Definitely not just a meetup. I think it ought to be more like an Angel Investing Group, where:
Members source and underwrite deals together
We pool capital into each deal intentionally (no blind pools)
Decisions are transparent, and structured so members can actively shape outcomes
Every member chooses their own level of involvement — contributor, underwriter, backer, etc.
This ought not be built for “followers,” but for co-creators!
Why now?
Well, because I feel I’ve fallen through the cracks of real estate investment, and I’d bet other have, too.
How many other opportunities — and talented people — have fallen through the cracks, too?
Perhaps there are people (like me, at least) who want to invest smarter, and together, not just passively?
I have to believe there are enough of us here in the Bay Area who are ready for more agency, more transparency, and more local control.
I’d advocate for starting small and staying scrappy — a group of high-agency individuals who believe we can do this differently.
What happens next?
This blog is for me to throw down the gauntlet… I have an idea of how this could work, and I’d love to find folks who are willing to take up this cause for and with me…
